Third graders making real progress with fractions

We had a very productive day in third grade today.

We started with a hidden picture puzzle.

In math we worked more with fractions.  You wouldn’t believe the level of thinking we had going on today.  We used fractions when we worked with our rhyming words in reading.  I told them that 5/24 would be red. 4/24 would be green, and 4/24 would be 4/24 would be pink.  Then I asked them what fraction told us how many jelly beans were red, green, or pink.  They answered quickly with 13/24.  They added fractions, without really knowing it.  Then I asked what fraction of them were not red, green, or pink.  Again, 11/24 was the quick answer.  I was beaming!

In reading we finished reading the passage about the grasshopper and answered several different questions and practiced several different skills .

In language arts, we worked with some words that had the “oi” or “ow” sound in them.  We had to also find which sentence combined two sentences correctly.

We took our spelling tests.  I now have 2 different lists.

In social studies we worked with a map scale.
