Third graders learn a new way to multiply 2-digit numbers

Today was another great day!  We are remembering our procedures much better.

We started by finishing any bell work that was incomplete.

In math we worked with multiplying 2-digit numbers by 1 number.  We showed another way besides the traditional style.  For example, if you have 34 X 5, since 34 written in expanded form is 30 + 4, then you could multiply 30 by 5 and 4 by 5, then add those products together to get 170.

In reading we read our book silently.  Then we took our vocabulary words and wrote a sentence or drew a picture for each word.

In spelling we wrote our words around a Christmas tree outline.

In social studies we worked with our newspapers.

The student council is doing a blanket drive.  Any new, or like-new, blankets are appreciated.
