Dear parents, it is time to
discuss the elephant in the room. In case we do not have school
next week, I have sent home packets and review sheets for your child to work
on. I do not want your child to forget about the tests that I am sure we
will be taking. As always, I only want them to do their best. It is
very important for them to know that.
I want you to know that
situations like the one we are experiencing make me nauseous. I don’t
want you or your family to think educators are abandoning your children.
We are truly fighting for them. Yes, salaries are a part of it, but
funding education is the biggest part. For example, with my years of
experience I will not see a raise. (I have had 2 across-the-board raises
in my 33 years.) But by funding the classrooms, it will seem like a raise
to every teacher. We have quit keeping up with receipts, as we are only
allowed a $250 tax break each year. While I hope and pray this is
resolved soon, please know I am watching out for your child. I will
continue to post on the blog. Thank you for your support. So many
have told me they they were behind the teachers.
We started with graph
pictures for bell work today.
In math we played “I Have,
Who Has?” using money. We also reviewed money and making given amounts
using the FEWEST coins possible. This threw a few students.
In reading we labeled groups
of words, using what they had in common. We also went over the packet
that went home yesterday.
We also read the clues that
students wrote about their “Peep” they designed Tuesday. We saw how
important it was to include well-written clues. The object was to guess
which Peep was a person’s by their clues.
In everything we do, we are
going over answers and skills that will help them with the test. This is
the first big test these students have taken. If we can get them over the
fear of it and make them feel comfortable about it, we have accomplished the
first hurdle.
Happy Easter!
