More work on fractions for third graders

We had a marvelous Monday.

We started with finishing our Leprechaun from Friday.

In math we worked with fractions.  We added them and identified different ones.  I tried something I have never done before.  On one page it said to color the shapes that were divided into equal parts.  There were 15 shapes.  I told them they would be coloring 10/15 of them.  We did that on a couple of papers.  It was good for them to see the relevance of fractions.

In reading we read with our peers.  Then we wrote 10 facts from our book about Abraham Lincoln and the page numbers on which they were found.  The book coming home tonight is another book about Abraham Lincoln.  We will compare/contrast them tomorrow. Note:  See the post just below this one for pictures of students reading about Abe Lincoln.

We went over our thinking folders today.  They are enjoying these.

In art we made monsters by folding a piece of paper into fourths.

We did our spelling aerobics with this week’s words.  We also used an old list and I sorted them into three categories.  The children had to guess why each were in a certain category.  They will be sorting with a group tomorrow.

Our list for this week:
            April
            babies
            over
            hello
            even
            we
            silent
            tiny
            menu
            future
            dear
            raise
            white
            used
            those

Picture day is Wednesday.  We will take ours at 11:00.

Tomorrow is hat day!  They earned that with our fundraiser!
