Students work with word definitions

We had a good start to the new year in third grade.

We started with a reading passage about Betsy Ross.

In math we discussed some 3-D shapes and their qualities/attributes.

In reading we read a book.  We also went over the vocabulary.  They were put into groups of 2 or 3 and asked to come up with their own definition for each vocabulary word.  After we discussed theirs, I handed out the ones that are in the glossary.  It was great to see their eyes when they realized they had gotten pretty close with their definitions.  The biggest obstacle was getting them to write definitions, not sentences.

We did “Tear-a-Part” art today.  No cutting allowed on this assignment.  They turned out great!
